Freedom and equality

A particularly important area at the interface between freedom and equality is the right to asylum. .

When people in a country outside the EU are politically persecuted or their lives are threatened, this also poses a threat to fundamental European concepts of human dignity, freedom and global equality. If politically or existentially persecuted persons seek help in the EU, they must be granted protection in accordance with Articles 18 and 19 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights.
